Book Related Cool Stuff Volume 2.0

Haven’t done one of these in forever!

Saw this very cool shower curtain and just had to share!

Dave Eggers Shower Curtain by Dave Eggers

$40.00 at Fab.com (ends Friday morning!) Origially $65.

THE THING Quarterly is a different kind of periodical: Instead of sending out a publication, it issues useful everyday objects with cultural significance. This special issue 16 comes from American author Dave Eggers, of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius fame. It’s a shower curtain which features a monologue written by Eggers from the perspective of his own shower curtain—how appropriately meta, right?

If you like this HURRY! It ends Friday morning! Grab it at Fab.com for $40.

Kindle Fire! Plus 3 Additional New Kindle Devices!

What an exciting morning! I sat at my PC this morning waiting in anticipation to hear what would be unveiled at the Amazon press conference held at 10:00 am. The rumors were that there would be a new tablet device unveiled.

The rumors would be correct! And there was more!

Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire is a 7″ tablet that incorporates all kinds of media via wi-fi connectivity. It uses IPS display technology (used by iPads), has 8 GB of interanl storage (Free unlimited Amazon content storage via Amazon Cloud), weights 14.6 ounces and 8 hours of continous reading or 7.5 hours play battery life. It’s basically a smaller iPad without the 3G possibility with a MUCH smaller price tag: $199. (An iPad starts at $499 with 16 GB of storage, which is double what the Fire offers, so it’s compariable if you require more internal storage).

Fire will release on November 15th and pre-orders are available as of today with a first come first served. Get in line now!

Kindle Wi-Fi (no 3G option)

The Kindle has been redesigned! Say goodbye to the keyboard and hello to a smaller, thinner version! This is truly a great deal! Only want an e-reader? The Kindle is just what you need in a perfect little package with a perfect little price: $79. (with Special Offers) (Without Special Offers you’d pay $109) . It’s so small it’ll fit in the back pocket of your jeans!

Kindle Touch Wi-fi & Touch 3G

Now do you want an e-reader with a bit of pizzazz? Love the feel of a touch screen tablet but don’t want to fork over the extra cash for one? Then the Touch is probably what you’d like. It has a pretty incredible touch screen (I’d suggest watching the video on Amazon). It has a very cool new feature called X-ray. It will automatically download extra information from Wikipedia and Shelfari about the book so you can access it whenever you want with a simple touch of the screen.

This new technology is amazing. And so is the price!

Kindle Touch Wi-fi: $99 with Special Offers or $139 without Special Offers! Under $100 for a very cool e-reader device.

Kindle Touch 3G: $149 with Special Offers or $189 without Special Offers.

I like the idea of the Fire but I’m wondeirng if it’s better than the iPad? I don’t own an iPad but I’d love to. I hate the cost of the iPad but it’s comparible because it has double the amount of internal storage as the Fire. I probably won’t buy this quite yet but it’s really cool to see technology advancing!

Check out all the Kindle devices!

Book Related Cool Stuff Vol. 1.1

A few things I’ve seen recently that I wanted to share!

If only my budget wasn’t so tight I’d be buying a few of these awesome things!

Apparel

Bookworm socks. Awesome. Available from ThinkGeek for $10.99 a pair.

A Woot T-shirt for the Harry Potter fans. $15.

Reading Accessories

There are 3 other designs but this is my favorite! A pad of 25 bookmarks for $6 is available from Knock Knock. I love most of their products!

A Fred product, another one of my favorite quirky companies, this the Fingerprint bookmark band. It’s $7 on MoMA Store but is readily available at other sites for just slightly more. I love that you can point it to the exact line that you leave off on.

Have you seen any cool and unusual bookish things? Link me to them in the comments!

Bookperk Anyone?

Have you heard of Bookperk before? I just saw it today from an email that was sent to me from Hiplit (HarperTeen).

Bookperk is a site for all of us book lovers. For the first time, readers get access to exclusive merchandise and experiences from their favorite authors and books.

I created an account to see what other deals might come up.

Today’s deal is a hardcover copy of the movie tie-in edition of I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore and one free movie ticket for $17.99 (includes free USPS shipping). There’s also a Justin Bieber book and two movie tickets as well as Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: Signed First Edition Ree Drummond’s The Pioneer Woman!

While the combo of both at $17.99 is a good deal I’m not sure if I want to buy it. 😦 I really want to see the movie because it looks pretty awesome and I know there’s been quite a bit of controversy over the author issue.

What do you think? A good deal? Will I finish the book in time to use the free ticket to see the movie in the theater? (probably, and who cares, I can use it to see a different movie)

Fun Facts: Reading Habits

I’ve seen this on a few blogs so I’d thought I’d join the fun! The last one I read was Lori’s over at Pure Imagination.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack: Not usually but most often if I’m snacking it’s Tostitos and salsa.

What is your favorite drink while reading? In the am it’s coffee, otherwise it’s either water or a soda. Nothing special for reading time cause reading time is all the time. 🙂

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? NO! I do not mark my books at all. Well, I do sometimes, in anthologies because I have a hard time remembering why I like one short story and not another.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open? Bookmarks usually. I have Harlequin Teen flyer I’ve been using since BEA 2009 for the large books and I have tons of smaller bookmarks for paperbacks. I love matching up author bookmarks to their books while reading. If I don’t have a bookmark handy anything will do as long as it doesn’t damage the pages.

Fiction, non-fiction, or both? Fiction. I haven’t read a non-fiction book in a really, really long time.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere? I can usually stop anywhere as long as I finish a paragraph. I tend to refuse to stop at chapters because that’s usually where the awesome is happening. I try to stop shortly after the awesome but before more awesome comes. I try my best to finish the page I’m on.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you? No. I don’t think I’ve ever thrown a book before. Gently tossed, sure, but never thrown. 🙂

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away? Yes, depending on where I am and how much it irritates me not knowing. The Kindle is awesome for this because of the built in dictionary. I don’t like coming across a foreign language so I tend to look those up immediately.

What are you currently reading?

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

And it’s freaking awesome. 🙂

What is the last book you bought? It’s a pre-order but it’s the last book I’ve placed an order for.

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, Book 5) by Richelle Mead

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one? I read one book at a time. However, I’ve been known to start one book, put it aside for another, then come back to it afterwards.

Do you have a favorite time/place to read? I’m The Cozy Reader which  means I like to read comfortably so the couch (our new reclining couch is awesome) or in bed. We also just got a new recliner that’s pretty comfy I must say.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones? I love me a good series. I like feeling like I know and can grow with characters along the way. However, I do love stand alones too. If a stand alone can wrap its self up and only be one book, it’s a great thing.

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over? YES! I’m always gushing about Gail Carriger’s books:

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate) by Gail Carriger

Changeless (The Parasol Protectorate) by Gail Carriger

I pushed a few books on my friend recently:

Feed by M.T. Anderson

Rampant by Diana Peterfreund

Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow

How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.) I tend to organize by size: tall to short. And then by series and author. However, my bookcase is overflowing so there really isn’t much organizing going on right now. 😦 I’d love to pull them all off and organize by author name and publication date.

That was fun! 🙂

Do you Glue?

getglue_sans_com_logo_SMALL I’ve been using Glue for quite a while now. I have the add-on installed on Mozilla Firefox and I have my blog enhanced by Glue.

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Go to GetGlue! Or here’s a brief explanation, What is Glue?

Glue is a service that helps you find your next favorite movie, book, music album or other every day thing (here’s a list of supported categories). Glue shows you things that you’ll like based on your personal tastes, what your friends like, and what’s most popular on Glue.

For me, Glue is a supplement to my general internet browsing. I don’t use it exclusively for internet notations etc. It’s just a cool thing to use. I love rating the books I’ve read with a thumbs up or down and even adding a quick note about it, which can be posted to Twitter and Facebook should you chose.

Glue is pretty cool because it monitors what you visit, what you like/dislike, provides suggestions, allows others to “follow” you, and you get cool stickers!

And you can even become a Guru of things, which has it’s perks because Glue now has Guru giveaways. I’ve won two! I won some movie tickets ($20 of Fandango Bucks) and I just won The Poison Eaters by Holly Black this week.

The Poison Eaters: and Other Stories by Holly Black

All-in-all Glue is pretty cool. So, do you Glue?
